Here we go again. Smoking kills some people.

Every now and then, some nut job anti smoking group pops up in a local paper and spouts of some rubbish about the dangers / costs of smoking. You know what never happens though? The reporter who runs the story never questions the data. Not even a little bit.

No matter how demonstrable the bolocks, it's treated as the gospel truth. It's like the press release was brought down from a mountain by a bearded guy.

The latest crap is from South Tyneside.

SMOKING is still costing lives in South Tyneside.

You're shitting me sir. South Tyneside is not completely different to every other place in the world?

New figures have revealed that 145 people died in the borough in a year from smoking-related cancers.

The population of South Tyneside is 152,000.  Just over 20% of people in the UK smoke, so that's 30,400 people in ST. That's 0.5% of smokers dying of cancer in ST. And that's only smoking related cancer. Who's to say how they really got it.

“There is still a real lack of awareness about the many types of cancer caused by smoking. Nearly everyone knows lung cancer is caused by smoking but very few people realise smoking is linked to 15 different types of cancer.”

As Leg-Iron says, if you want to know what illnesses are caused by smoking, just open a medical book and start at A. Everything is blamed on smoking these days.

She added: “This is hardly surprising when you consider the range of poisons in cigarette smoke, which contains more than 70 cancer-causing chemicals.

You forgot to mention the 4000 chemicals in cigarette smoke. The dose is of course, the poison. The bulk of these chemicals are totally harmless in the amounts you get in a fag.

Ailsa Rutter, director of Fresh, said: “Too many cherished mothers, fathers and grandparents die before their time every year as a result of smoking-related cancers, leaving loved ones behind.

What is your time? How many of these people die after living a long life? Most of them.

We need to recognise that smoking is an addiction promoted by an industry with no regard for people’s health, only its profits.”

The evil tobacco companies. Providing a product that some people want to use. Kill them with fire!
